Josep Vicent Boira: Valencia, the city

The L’Iber Museum hosts the next Thursday 6 November at 19:30 h the presentation of the professor's new book Josep Vicent Boira, professor at the University of Valencia. His work, entitled Valencia, the city, proposes an exciting journey through more than two thousand years of history of the Valencian capital.

Since its foundation by Rome in the year 138 a. C. until contemporary times, With a fluid and accessible narrative, Boira traces the main episodes that have shaped the lives of generations of Valencians.: his achievements, conflicts, transformations and continuities. The author offers a comprehensive look at the geographical evolution, urban and humane of Valencia, highlighting both the elements of permanence and the ruptures and renewals that have marked its historical evolution.

The book combines the rigor of historical research with a deep personal reflection on the city's identity.. In a globalized world that tends to homogenize landscapes and trajectories, Valencia, the city vindicates the importance of recognizing the uniqueness of the human history and geography of our cities. As the author himself points out, narrating is not simplifying, but select, give meaning and continuity to the succession of events.

Inspired by the words of philosopher Byung-Chul Han, Boira invites us to understand València not as a linear path towards a goal, but as a network of digressions, excesses and deviations that make up its essence. With this journey through the past and the present, the reader will be able to better understand the future of the city.
