Special day dedicated to Maria Beneyto

The Historical Library of the University of Valencia will celebrate the next one 19 November 20 a special day dedicated to the Valencian writer Maria Beneyto (1920-2011), on the occasion of Valencian Book Day. For the seventh consecutive year, the institution joins this commemoration through a continuous reading, which on this occasion will be focused on his most emblematic narrative work, The strong woman. Each 20 of November the publication is remembered, in 1490, of the first edition of Tirant the White, by Joanot Martorell, considered a fundamental piece in Valencian literature and one of the first references of the modern European novel. The Historical Library preserves one of the only three known copies of this incunabula edition.

Throughout the day, more than a hundred participants will read excerpts from The strong woman, novel awarded with the Joan Senent Prize in 1965 and published two years later. The work addresses female emancipation and constitutes a reference in the Valencian narrative of the 20th century. in parallel, you can visit the traveling exhibition "Maria Beneyto: letter wounded life», ceded by the Valencian Academy of the Language (AVL), which reviews the most significant moments of the author's life and literary career, recognized as Writer of the Year 2025 by AVL.

The activities, free and open access, it lasts to term 19 of November, of 10:30 h a 19:00 h, in the Duke of Calabria Room of the Historical Library (La Nau Cultural Center). The attending public will also be able to enjoy various musical interventions by members of the Orchestra of the University of Valencia.
