Innovation for resilient reconstruction. Learning and proposals for public policies in Germany and Spain

The Espai Vives of the University of Valencia will host next Friday 24 of April the day 'Innovation for a resilient reconstruction. Learning and proposals for public policies in Germany and Spain', organized by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, the Innpulso Network, the University of Valencia and the Polytechnic University of Valencia.

The initiative aims to support the municipalities affected by the flood in their recovery processes from a transformative approach, at the same time that it broadens the view towards resilience in the face of climate change. In this framework, public and academic institutions share the goal of promoting coordinated responses to the growing impact of these phenomena. The appointment will bring together public officials, international experts and academic community to advance innovative solutions.

The day will be inaugurated at 10 hours by the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant, and will mark his first institutional meeting with the rector of the University of Valencia, Juan Luis Gandia.

Conceived as a space for dialogue and exchange, the day will focus on the role of innovation in public policies and reconstruction processes after extreme phenomena. Among its main contributions, the intervention of the German expert Jörn Birkmann stands out, Director of the Institute of Spatial Planning and Regional Development at the University of Stuttgart, who advised the German Government after the floods in the Ahr valley 2021. Their participation will provide an international perspective on territorial planning and resilient reconstruction strategies, connecting the German experience with the current challenges in Spain.

The event will be attended by more mayors and representatives of the three co-leader cities of the Climate Resilience Working Group: Alzira, Riba-roja de Túria and Torrent.

The day will also serve to inaugurate the Working Group on Innovation for Climate Resilience, within the framework of the Innovation Program for Climate Resilience and Urban Reconstruction Agendas (2025).
