This year the 70 anniversary of the actor's death, Valencian director and playwright Enrique Rambal García, one of the great renovators of the theater scene in Spain and America. His impressive stage sets, with all kinds of special effects and spectacular scenery, they had an impact in their time, and his theatrical film adaptations enjoyed enormous success, like the one he made of Cardigan, the famous Hitchcock film.
The City Council of Utiel, his native town, the University of Valencia, The Provincial Council of Valencia and the Enrique Rambal Utiel Performing Arts Group have scheduled a whole series of activities this year, which include exhibitions, tie, theatrical performances and an academic seminar, to which La Filmoteca joins with the projection of two films. First of all, the only film in which he participated, The missing, shot in 1934, and of which about fifty minutes of its total duration are preserved. What has reached us from her, a material preserved in the Spanish Film Archive, allows you to follow the plot and continuity and to be able to see the only moving images that exist of the actor, overturned all his life in the theater. The session will have a presentation by Francisca Ferrer, author of a doctoral thesis and a biography of Rambal, i Miguel Requena, professor at the University of Valencia and promoter of the celebrations surrounding the tribute.
The second title is The wreck, directed by Ricardo Franco in 1978 and whose central character, interpreted by Fernando Fernán Gómez, is inspired by Rambal as a tribute to his visionary conception of the theatrical show. Fernán Gómez trained as an actor in his company, where his mother also worked, the actress Carola Fernán Gómez, I was a great admirer of the playwright, as we can see in the recording that will accompany the screening of the film, with a fragment of the conference he gave in Valencia, en the Rialto buildings, he 25 May of May 1990. This session will also be accompanied by a presentation and discussion around the figure and work of Rambal.
