The Journey of Abendino narrates the exodus of a Sephardic Jew from his native Granada to Constantinople, fruit of the expulsion ordered by the Catholic Monarchs in the year 1492. During his journey through the Mediterranean, Abendino will come into contact with a plurality of cultural realities, religious and musical, not without danger, until its final establishment in Constantinople. The program combines Renaissance and medieval compositions (taken from the Palace Songbook and the Codex Squarcialupi, among others) with traditional Sephardic repertoire, Andalusian classical music and pieces of oral tradition from the Balkans and Anatolia, using both historical and traditional instruments from the different cultures that surround the Mediterranean.
