EDMUNDO, writing, directed and performed by Ernes Orellana, is a powerful Chilean production that arrives at Espai Inestable in collaboration with the Santiago Off Festival – Ibero-American Routes. On stage, the director himself becomes a performer to give life to a performative and multimedia monologue inspired by the story of Edmundo Rodríguez, a teacher who was the first victim of HIV/AIDS in Chile that year 1984.
Through autofiction, queer activism and cos on stage, the piece reconstructs a sex-political memory pierced by stigma, the silence and experiences of homosexual communities during the first years of the pandemic. An intense and contemporary proposal that, more than 40 years after the appearance of HIV in Latin America, re-opens pressing memory questions, dissent and rights.
