Dialogues with pinazo: Portraits (or if I were). Doctor Alonso Society

Within the framework of Pinazo: identities, Commissioned by Vicente Pla, We begin a series of dialogues between Pinazo and contemporary artists. In the first invitation, Societat Doctor Alonso will intervene in the field Recognition of the sample, proposing a cross between his portraits and those of Pinazo.

Portraits (or if I were) is a project of 2008 by Societat Doctor Alonso with the intention of portraying different bodies, different identities, Through the body of the same person: The dancer Sofia Asencio. In different videos that function as living paintings, Asencio appropriates the movement and iconography typical of each of the people who portrays, creating a displaced representation, An imitation. Depth stripped looks like a children's costume game. However, The characters are not part of an epic or fiction imaginary. Son, For example, An English teacher from Prague, A housewife of Lebanon or a Rivas fruit. What unites the work of Societat Doctor Alonso with the works of Ignacio Pinazo is the insightful curiosity about his fellow men, for its symbols, Your scenarios. Both rummage into an open gap in modernity: Reflection on identity, be your own or the others.

Seeing these works, separated by more than a century of history, arranged together in the same room, We cannot avoid asking how identity and their representation have been transformed since then. Are all the mandatory daughters works of your time? How has the transformation of modernity influenced the way we look at others? How have we changed as represented? Both when looking and representing, We are condemned to pass the other's image for us, modifying it.
