The ball Mata Hari is inspired by the turbulent life of the spy and one of the most famous dancers of her time. Margaretha Geertruida Zelle arrived in Paris in the middle of good times, in 1905, where it became one of the great sensations from night to day. In this production by the Dutch National Ballet, released in 2016, choreographer Ted Brandsen combines epic and exuberance with intimate and introspective scenes. Anna Tsygankova, one of the company's main dancers, embodies the Dutch woman who reinvented herself in turbulent times.
