What can we do in the face of a present that hurts and numbs us?? How to position ourselves between deceptive idealism and demobilizing cynicism? Can we activate hope and build kinder and more horizontal futures for good living?? Inhabit the catastrophe proposes a critical and creative journey through the ways in which ecofeminism, Utopian experiences and non-capitalist visions allow us to think and live in a time marked by the transversality and acceleration of different crises. Throughout four sessions we will explore fragments of theoretical texts, press, fictions and experiences that question the imaginary of collapse as an end and open, instead, spaces to imagine kinder worlds built from interdependence, the care, the commons and the possibility of plural futures. This course invites you to understand the catastrophe not only as a threatening reality, but as a crack from which to test other ways of inhabiting the shared present.
PROGRAM:
Session 1: Is the catastrophe already here?
Analysis and evaluation of the sociopolitical present from a critical multidisciplinary perspective. What is a catastrophe? Do we live immersed in it? How do we define -from what semantic field- the present we inhabit? What indicators/signifiers have replaced the rhetoric of emergency?
Session 2: The future is not written
And if we do not give in to political demobilization and eco-anxiety, What other avenues can we explore?? Sketch of utopian ideas and archives of other experiences that projected unlikely ideas into the future that ended up being materialized.. Recovery, besides, of basic ideas of coexistence and good living, how to replace (and rethink) life in its most human and least commercial dimension.
Session 3: Ecofeminist hopes for habitable futures
We turn to the canon of ecofeminist theorists in search of light, of practices and ideas. What does postcolonial theory currently offer in the face of dispossession?, widespread domination and plunder? How does ecofeminist thought confront the prevailing paradigm of war?? What weapons of the weak are in operation at this moment in other places on the planet?
Session 4: In the face of the emergency to come: live today
Made the diagnosis and analyzed different positions regarding the present, Can we imagine articulating alternatives to the automation of current capitalist behavior?
