conference: “Vasari's Fascinating Voids”, by Martí Domínguez

About the publication of THE Vides by Giorgio Vasari (Bow, 2026), translation into Catalan by Martí Domínguez Pérez with introduction and editing by Martí Domínguez Romero

For the first time in Catalan, a fundamental work of European culture, of the history of art and the Renaissance.

The lives of the most excellent painters, sculptors and architects by Giorgio Vasari is one of the foundational works of art history and essential reading to understand the Italian Renaissance. More than a simple collection of biographies, this monumental project brings together nearly two hundred lives of artists narrated with an extraordinary literary capacity, combining historical information, personal observations, anecdotes and critical judgments that give the text great liveliness.

Written in the 16th century by an artist who knew first hand many of the protagonists of his story, the work constitutes the main documentary source on key figures. at the same time, establishes a biographical model that would profoundly influence later artistic historiography.

This edition in three volumes, translated by Martí Domínguez Pérez from the second expanded version, of 1568, it incorporates a valuable content of notes and an introduction by Martí Domínguez Romero that contextualizes the work. An essential classic for both specialists and readers interested in the art and culture of the Renaissance.
