Childhood Talk, landscape and city: Gulliver's legacy

The session is based on the legacy of Gulliver Park, conceived ago 35 years as a gesture of experimentation, imagination and creative risk difficult to repeat today. That intervention marked a moment when the game was understood as a collective experience, educational and emotional, integrated into the urban landscape. This meeting proposes to review this heritage and analyze how current regulations and safety criteria have been restricting design freedom and the capacity for surprise., transforming play spaces into isolated enclosures, of low landscape quality and little connection with the daily life of the city.

From the contextualization of Gulliver in his origins and his current situation, The talk will address contemporary challenges in the design of children's areas and children's rights in public spaces. Three experiences will be presented that recover the playful and community spirit: Play Patraix, from the studio Studying, PaiportApprop, by Mentrestant Arquitectura and the Play Area of the New Parque de las Glòries, by ACPA, Ana Coello Architecture and Landscape. The three projects offer renewed views on how to integrate creativity, security, sustainability and citizen participation, claiming play as an essential tool to rethink the city from childhood.
