Centenary Rafael Azcona: The executioner

The Filmoteca joins the celebration of the centenary of the writer and screenwriter Rafael Azcona (1926-2008). To explain the essential role he has played in our history and culture, it would be enough to list the dazzling list of his very long filmography and the filmmakers with whom he collaborated: Luis García Berlanga, Marco Ferreri, Carlos Saura, Fernando Trueba, José Luis García Sánchez, Pedro OIea or José Luis Cuerda, others. For the occasion, we gather some essential titles that give the measure of his enormous talent.

Azcona and Berlanga are giving away eleven great films, from which we collect two masterpieces of cinema: Placid (1961) i The executioner (1963). His extensive work with Saura showed that the black humor and the costumist realism elevated to social satire in which he was a master did not prevent him from approaching highly metaphorical stories, symbolic and surreal, of which Ana and the wolves (1973) is a perfect example, as it also is the anchorite (1976), by Juan Esterlich. Azcona is going to make her film debut in 1958, adapting his own novel, The flat, extraordinary film directed by Marco Ferreri that will be the subject of a seminar in November, with various talks and colloquiums. What would Spanish cinema be without Rafael Azcona!
