Captcha, I'm not a robot

The MuVIM opens the exhibition this evening Captcha, I'm not a robot, a research project of the Master in Graphic Design and Typography of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) which analyzes the mutation of typography in the contemporary digital context. The proposal, curated by Begoña Jordá and Nereida Tarazona, revolves around the concept of "hostile typography", term that defines typographic forms that, far from facilitating reading, they impose a deliberate visual resistance. The participating artists have transformed these security filters into compositions of great visual impact. Like this, through plastic and digital techniques, the works presented question the traditional function of letters as a transparent vehicle of information. In its place, typography takes on a leading role as an expressive tool of great personality.

Captcha, I'm not a robot it also invites us to reflect on the nature of the glyph in the 21st century and asks if legibility is an intrinsic property of the word or a convention that technology forces us to break. The exhibited works present this issue from multiple perspectives, showing that, in front of the automation of the world, the human ability to recognize patterns and shapes remains a unique act of identity.
