UV Narratives Classroom: Paco Cerda

The Aula de Narratives of the University of Valencia begins its program this year with a literary gathering on the latest novel by the Valencian writer and journalist Paco Cerdà (Genoese, 1985): Gifts(Alfaguara, 2024), which will take place on Tuesday 17 of September in the Great Hall of the Cultural Center of the Ship, to them 19 hours. They will participate, in addition to the author, Purification Mask, writer and professor of Theory of Literature, Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies of the UV, and professor Cristina García Pascual, responsible for the UV Narratives Classroom.

The Cultural Center of the Nau becomes the stage chosen for the official presentation in Valencia of one of the most anticipated works of the season. Gifts, through eleven key days of 1939, narrates the rise of fascist megalomania in Spain and contrasts this with the small lives of those who dreamed and defended their ideals paying a high price with repression. With this book Cerdà consolidates himself as one of the great writers of his generation in the field of non-fiction and enters the prestigious Alfaguara catalog. The work addresses one of the most significant episodes in the contemporary history of Spain that combines journalistic rigor with high-level literary prose. As the writer and journalist Elvira Lindo points out: “With the pulse of a chronicler, the precision of a researcher and the skill of a novelist, Paco Cerdá undertakes an ambitious company: narrate the arrival of the Second Republic from the perspective of both those who longed for it and those who feared it. The result is a fast-paced and passionate narrative.”
