This conference will focus on Italy as the cradle of Franciscan nativity scenes and on the subsequent expansion of the nativity scene in the Hispanic sphere., with special attention to the famous Belén del Príncipe. The contributions of the great sculptors and figurines of the Baroque and the Enlightenment will be highlighted. (as Luisa Roldán, Francisco Salzillo, José Esteve Bonet or Roque López), as well as the contemporary nativity scene masters who, between tradition and renewal, They will continue to model figures in clay in various territories of Spain.
The conference will also highlight the importance of the recognition granted by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, that will declare in 2022 Nativity scene as a representative manifestation of Intangible Cultural Heritage, highlighting its cultural value, social and community within the living heritage.
