Would you eat a mango with me? That is the invitation issued by Malvin Starlin Montero – Puerca de Goma, Afro-Dominicanx artist and dissident, in his scenic creation “Arró con Mango”, a work that celebrates disorder as a form of resistance and the body as a living archive of memory, desire and survival.
The work highlights the pelvis as the center of movement, connecting with ancestral dances like Gaga to recover Afro-descendant heritage, systematically denied in the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean. Besides, addresses non-binary gender expressions (add), using chaos as a symbol of resistance to the limits imposed by colonial binarism. This project invites the public to reflect on cultural identity, self-perception and the liberation of the body through a dance that celebrates disorder. “Arró with Mango” It is a colloquial expression from the Dominican Republic and Caribbean countries., which is used as a synonym for confusion, disorder, chaos; but also to talk about the strange, of the inexplicable of some things: This is weirder than eating Arró with Mango…
