The Municipal Exhibition Hall hosts OTHERS, an exhibition that recovers a "singular" episode in the recent history of Valencian art. Rescata The others 75 years of Valencian painting, a counter-exhibition organized in 1976 by a group of artists grouped in the Collective of Painters of the Valencian Country as a critical response to the exhibition 75 years of Valencian painting, held a year earlier, in 1975, in the same room of the City Hall.
Taking that event as a case study, the exhibition brings together works, documents and trajectories that allow us to observe some of the tensions that marked that moment. Between them, five historical paintings made by the Collective of Painters of the Valencian Country for the counter-exhibition and now recovered that dialogue with three works by Sorolla, Pinazo and Fillol, belonging to the official sample of 1975, establishing a confrontation that cuts through questions of representation, cultural legitimacy and collective organization.
The exhibition begins with a room where what was happening at that time is contextualized, what the most representative artists of Valencia and the most current ones were creating. The exhibition features works by Juana Francés, pioneer of the Spanish avant-garde; Javier Calvo, represented by Green rectangles; Jordi Weaver, with Two triangles with blue; Hernandez Mompó, Artur Heras, Rosa Torres, Antoni Miro, It's here, Arcadi Blasco or Juan Genovés, among other creators who contributed decisively to the Valencian artistic renewal of the decades of 1960 i 1970. In another room they face the exhibition 75 years of Valencian painting and the works of the Collective of Painters of the Valencian Country. There is also a space dedicatet to the documentation and contextualization in relation to the press and to the importance of this exhibition in society, which only lasted 5 dies. Finally, you can see a live testimony where some of the artists and gallerists who were the protagonists of the event and who are still with us have told their testimony together with art and culture professionals such as Pablo González Tornel, Marta López Ricarte, Lydia Frasquet, José Martí Martínez and Ramón Esteve among others.
Definitely, OTHERS reunite works by some of the Valencian artists “most prominent” from the 20th century. Between them you can contemplate Natural history of the 20th century by Josep Renau, Take and eat by Rafael Armengol, Count Duke I The family of Charles IV by Team Chronicle, as well as Highlights by Eusebio Sempere, one of the fundamental figures of Spanish geometric abstraction.
