A Room in the Desert

The new season of Berklee a Les Arts start the days strong 16 y 17 October at 19:30 h at the Martín i Soler Theater at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, with the premiere of “A Room in the Desert”, a concert that reinterprets the opera Manon, by the French composer Jules Massenet. Under the artistic direction of Magdalini Giannikou, Berklee Valencia students and professors have prepared this captivating show that explores female autonomy through art. The concert contrasts the tragic story of Manon Lescaut, whose destiny was shaped by men, with the liberating vision that Virginia Woolf presents in her work A room of your own.

In turn, A Room in the Desert, pays tribute to diverse female artists who, like Manon herself, They began their career at 16 years and challenged social norms to create their own space. The music of contemporary figures such as Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, Nina Simone and Madonna will serve to highlight the profound contrast between a past in which women were often silenced, and a present in which they have the tools and resources to forge their own destiny. Berklee a les Arts, a collaboration between the Palau de les Arts and Berklee, invites the public to discover new intersections between music and other artistic disciplines through the works performed at Les Arts. Tickets will be available soon at the Palau de les Arts website for the price of 7 euros.

The new season from Berklee to Les Arts will continue with concerts Antihero y The Surface of the Sea, the days 20 y 21 November 2024 y 18 y 19 February 2025, respectively. The first inspired by The Troubadour by Verdi and the second in The Flying Dutchman by Wagner.
