The Franco-Moroccan writer Leïla Slimani will receive the Valencia Book Fair International Prize, which this year reaches its 61st edition. The Fair will be held between the days 30 d'april i 10 of May at the Gardens of the Real of Valencia (Nurser), el seu recinte habitual. Slimani became known internationally in the year 2016, in which he won the prestigious Goncourt Prize with his second novel, A sweet song. The work, a remarkable sales success, already deals with some of the central themes of the author, such as prejudices of class and origin, power relations within families, the power of love and education, latent violence in society…
Slimani has recently completed the masterful trilogy The country of others, inspired by his family and set in the recent history of the Kingdom of Morocco, which speaks, among other things, of the social condition of women and the contradictions of Moroccan society. After The country of others, which gives title to the first volume, the trilogy continues with Look how we dance and ends with I'll take the fire. Leïla Slimani will receive the Valencia Book Fair International Prize on Wednesday 6 of May, to them 18.30. At the event, Slimani will hold a conversation with the Valencian writer Raquel Ricart, which received the Fair Award last year, with simultaneous translation by Anna Montero.
But Slimani will not be the only international presence at the Valencia Book Fair. on saturday 9 of May, de vesprada, visitarà la Fira l’escriptor turc Zülfü Livaneli, who will present his latest novel La casa de Leyla. Livaneli is also a musician, political activist and best-selling author in Turkey. He is considered one of the most important Turkish cultural figures of the present times. His works intertwine different social environments, historical characters and events, including the acclaimed Bliss (Barnes Award winner & Noble Discover Great New Writers) i Serenade for Nadia. Livaneli's work has been translated into 37 languages and has won numerous international awards. The Turkish author is also an internationally renowned musician and performer. L’any 1995 he was named a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for his cultural and political activities and contributions to world peace.
