The La Nau Cultural Center of the University of Valencia remembers, next monday 21 of October, to them 18:30 h, in the Great Hall of the University of Valencia, the 50 years of the Carnation Revolution, with a lecture by the Portuguese professor Ana Sofia Ferreira. With this event, the program for this course of the University's Department of History and Democratic Memory is inaugurated, which is coordinated by the professor of Contemporary History of the UV, Tony Morant, who will present the act.
The Carnation Revolution (25 April 21 1974) overthrew the longest-running dictatorship in Europe of the 20th century and, even though they are very different processes, it also influenced the start and development of the process of democratic recovery in Spain.
The conference '50 years of the April Revolution: history and memory' will be taught by Ana Sofia Ferreira, professor at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto and researcher associated with the Institute of Sociology of the New University of Lisbon. Ferreira is a specialist in 20th century Portuguese history and author of numerous publications. His research has dealt with topics as diverse as resistance and political violence against the dictatorship of the Portuguese New State or the labor movement and the left, among others. Besides, collaborates assiduously with Spanish historiography.
The Classroom of History and Democratic Memory of the University of Valencia, depending on the Vice-Rectorate for Culture and Society, promotes and makes visible initiatives related to history and democratic memory from the academic field and brings them closer to Valencian society.
