23 Peñíscola Jazz Festival: Sergio Bisbal & BS Community Band

The International Jazz Festival of Peñíscola, organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Universities through the Valencian Institute of Culture (IVC), presents its 23rd edition with a line-up that once again brings together big international names in the genre with local proposals.

The festival, which is celebrated from 2 al 5 of July, presents one more year eight concerts: four outstanding proposals that will take place in the Palau de Congressos de Peñíscola and four free concerts, in the town's Santa Maria square.

The deputy director of Music and Popular Culture of the IVC, Beatrice Traver, pointed out during his presentation that the Peniscola International Jazz Festival "combines the most international artistic excellence with accessibility and support for the Valencian musical fabric, giving special visibility to performers from Castelló, who share a poster with big international names such as the renowned Michel Camilo or Thomas Enhco".

On your part, the mayor of Peñíscola, Andres Martinez, has emphasized that it is "a consolidated and important appointment within the cultural agenda of Peñíscola which, year after year, continues to convince and add followers".

He 23 Peñíscola Jazz Festival starts on Thursday 2 of July, to them 19:30 hours, in the Plaça de Santa Maria with the proposed free access ofAlbert Bello & Oriol Sana, in a quartet format with a repertoire inspired by the music that played in Barcelona at the beginning of the 20th century, recovering and reinterpreting a sound heritage of great value.

Next, same Thursday, to them 22:30 hours, the first of the big concerts takes place in the Palau de Congressos, with the pianist and composer Michel Camilo. With a consolidated track record in the main stages of the world, Camilo will present a concert in which the elegance of the jazz contemporary, the rhythmic energy of the Caribbean and a dazzling piano technique.

On Friday 3 of July, Santa Maria square welcomes, to them 19:30 hours, the proposal for free access to the Tuscan Franco Baggiani, trumpeter, tireless composer and experimenter of the contemporary jazz scene, which will dedicate its program in quartet format to one of the most revolutionary periods in the history of music: the electric period of Miles Davis.

To the 22:30 Friday hours, The International Classic Jazz All Stars brings together some of the most outstanding musicians from the international scene in the Palau de Congressos jazz classic in a formation that stands out for its cosmopolitan character and its high level of interpretation.

on saturday 4 of July, to them 19:30 hours, arrives at Plaça de Santa Maria the band of jazz in sextet formation Sergio Bisbal & BS Community Band. Led by drummer Sergio Bisbal, combines elements of the jazz traditional with brushstrokes of soul, funk and free improvisation with a modern sound, a constant interaction between the musicians and an intimate and energetic staging.

The Jove Big Band Sedajazz, a vibrant formation integrated by 23 young musicians, Saturday is coming, to them 22:30 hours, in the Congress Hall. Origin of the renowned collective Sedajazz, represents one of the most solid proposals of the jazz young in our country.

The last day of the festival, on sunday 5 of July, starts with the free access proposal ofErnie Orts Jazz Quartet in Santa Maria square, to them 19:30 hours. After a stage in which he explored the swing, he funk and fusion, saxophonist Ernie Orts returns to the jazz with a stable training and great musical sensitivity. The quartet presents a repertoire that combines own compositions with revisions of standards and pieces linked to the tradition of the jazz in which bossa nova.

To close this 23rd edition of the Peñíscola Jazz Festival comes another of the most outstanding international proposals in the program, the french pianist Thomas Enhco, which will be in the Palau de Congressos de Peñíscola on Sunday 5 of July, to them 22:30 hours, with a proposal that builds bridges between the jazz and classical music.
