Friends of "In the heat of the words", we are celebrating!! This year we commemorate the 10th anniversary of a project that started as fun, as a space conceived around stories, the bonfires, the food and a lot of desire to have a good time, i don't, a lot of step, to recover oral narration and the old tradition of telling stories, that was done in some of the rural areas around us, in this case around Sant Antoni and Sant Blai. We celebrate it with one of the most common ingredients of this art: the lie. The most likely thing is that the lie was an invention of the first hunters who wanted to enhance some epic hunting story with coarse language... Most likely. Both the narrator and the listeners, they explained it and listened to it sitting around the fire in the cavern, surely.
We have heard thousands of times the expression so rooted that he is a storyteller, as a synonym of liar or deceiver. However, knowing that art in general and oral narration in particular is the least deceiving of all lies, this event around orality, has wanted in all its editions to claim and celebrate the laudatory words that according to the author R. Schami defines the storyteller as an honest liar.
Stories are honest inventions that only seek to fill existence with meaning, because fiction helps make this life more bearable, and unlike religious legends or myths, they have no pretense of being truthful. In lying, what is relevant is never its content, if not the intention of the liar. The honest liar, betting on the optimism that lies bring, lies without deception because there is consent on the part of the receiver, and he is moved by the noble purpose of enchanting, delight, to provide pleasure with something seemingly insignificant: the word carried by the wind.
On this tenth anniversary from L'ETNO we want to thank all the storytelling professionals here and there who have accompanied us during this time and especially Vicente Cortés, Contestor of the conte, to make it possible. And especially to the public who don't miss every edition. This year we want to invite him to allow himself to be deceived and remind him that as Plato said, between truth and beauty, poets always choose beauty.
