Prelude and fugue is the latest production from the Graneros de Creación project, the network of artistic residencies designed to support Valencian scenic creation. Sandra Gómez commanded a research laboratory that brought together four choreographers and a writer to share ways of doing things in the creative process. From here came the idea of taking the copy as the central axis of the choreography and trying to dissolve subjectivity. As did Bartleby the scribe, one of Herman Melville's most controversial literary characters, who replied to his boss with a “I'd rather not do it” every time the latter asked him to do something more than copy documents. This dance piece also uses copying as a tool to escape from any creative and original attempt. S.M.
