La temporada de ópera sigue en el Palau de Les Arts y llega el turno de La Malquerida, un drama lírico dividido en tres actos. Manuel Penella se inspiró en la obra homónima de Jacinto Benavente para dar forma a esta ópera de aires de gran zarzuela. Con el triunfo rotundo de The wild cat a sus espaldas, Penella arriesgó llevando a los grandes teatros, in 1935, el texto del dramaturgo Benavente que en 1913 conquistó a público y crítica con este drama rural. Tras su estreno, y como una bola de nieve que se vuelve avalancha, la obra obtuvo un éxito espectacular, incluso en México, donde este drama conocería su versión cinematográfica e incluso una telenovela.
