History of Cardenio

Off room. Turia, 47

History of Cardenio is a play that was lost for a long time and in 2008, partially rebuilt, li will be attributed to John Fletcher and William Shakespeare. Cardenio is one of the characters d’The Quijote, which shows that Shakespeare read Cervantes' magna work, translated into English in 1612. It has been very little versioned – a not uncommon circumstance considering a piece by the bard – and has the particularity that almost the entire cast is made up of women, that here they also play the male roles. A very premeditated gesture, since in Elizabethan times it was men who played all the characters because women were not allowed to act. Amor, heartbreak, gels, betrayal, violence, abuse and deception experienced by comic characters. AU
