El coreògraf suec Johan Inger acceptà la proposta de la Companyia Nacional de Dansa de muntar una nova versió de Carmen. Va ser tot un repte i un èxit al mateix temps, per a un suec, bring new ideas to this piece with a marked Spanish character. Defugint tòpics i costums, Inger ha sabut endinsar-se en la passió i la violència que emana el personatge original de Carmen i ho ha fet utilitzant la visió pura i no contaminada d’un xiquet. Així ha aconseguit reviure el mite operístic de Georges Bizet, amb una coreografia clara i neta que despulla la increïble força de la dansa i com no, la música de Rodión Shchedrín, interpretada majestuosament per l’Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana.
