41 Sagunto in Scene

FROM THURSDAY 1 ON SUNDAY 25/8

Victoria Abril and Joaquín Reyes are two of the names that resonate in the 41 edition of the Valencia performing arts summer festival Sagunto in Scene. The first interprets a Medusa [17-18], the dreaded monster of antiquity with snake hair and gaze petrifying that in this proposal tells us the mythological story from his point of view so that we ask ourselves if, into account of monster, may be, was a victim. Joaquín Reyes is part of the cast of Peace (Grotesque celebration about Aristophanes) [22], a comic fable by Aristophanes where the irreverent Francisco Nieva has stuck his hand. An invocation to the goddess Pau on Trigeu, a vintner from Attica, undertakes the heroic act of bringing peace to an Athens at war. Both pieces come direct from the Merida Festival, of which the Saguntí program draws together with that of other classical theater festivals in the state such as Greek from Barcelona. With his stamp he arrives at the Roman theater Tirant lo Blanch [24], a pillar of chivalric literature written more than five hundred years ago revisited in a montage that links the adventures of the mythical character of Joanot Martorell with contemporary conflicts.

Like this, we will have heritage theater from the Valencian Golden Age and Greco-Latin theater, the great bastion of Sagunto in Escena, but also street circus, live music, dance and flamenco within a heterogeneous program that includes various styles and disciplines and seeks audiences of different ages, incomes and concerns. The flamenco choreographies ofEduardo Guerrero embellish five dance scenes for five characters in Lorca's literature drowned in heartbreak in Jondo. From the first cry, of the first kiss [14], with Carmen Linares; Nacho Duato [1] recovers some of his most iconic choreographies with his new young company, Christine Cloux [7] presents Body alone nominated in the next edition of the Max awards as Best Dance Show and Best Female Dance Performer, i Rafael Álvarez “The Witcher” reflects on the fate of Greek tragedy in the monologue Icons or destination exploration [3]. The music is served to us by three women, Esther i Colomet [23] in a joint concert, and the young Canarian singer-songwriter Valeria Castro Latin Grammy nominee 2023 for the song "La raíz" [10], who will present his first album With love and carein the only concert that will be offered in 2024 in the Valencian Country. This after what the Trumpetz open the festival with electronic trumpet music on the 1st of August during Pujada al Castell.

Finally, we highlight some of the Off Romà montages, that section of the festival that takes place for free in squares, roundabouts and non-conventional spaces in the town. The company from Murcia Sirocco use Korean scale, acrobatic ports and acrodance in The call of the void [4], a poetic expression with which the French explain the vertigo we feel when faced with decisions that can completely change our lives; Anna Mateu dance to point out to us all the factors that are putting the Albufera de Valencia in danger rice [9], Bucra account in The big end [11] the story of two clowns who had to separate many years ago due to the outbreak of the civil war, L’Great Team introduces us to Captain Spriki [15] and his team of superheroes ready to end the dangers that threaten the planet with stunts, balls, songs and lots of humor, Goose & Cia parodies great classics of literature with a very funny gesture comedy called Welcome & sorry [16], Noodle light reflect on Nuanced [21] on the relationships that humans establish with other species and The Majara close the festival with a Verbena [25] that invites everyone to dance.
