Raymond Briggs · Blackie Books · 2021
As the subtitle warns Ethel y Ernest, de Raymond Briggs, what we are told is a true story, specifically that of his parents. With an intimate and friendly drawing, the author manages to convey the day-to-day life of this simple couple over four decades.. The work, far from presenting us with a linear argument, uses anecdotes and traditional scenes to show us some of the most significant changes in the daily life of families in the 20th century, like the gradual appearance of household appliances, changes in the way of thinking, the rise of Nazism and the advent of war or the acquisition of maternal and paternal roles when the couple's child is born, the author himself.
