Six illustrators add ink to the stories of six women who tell Mariona Visa Barbosa how they found a boyfriend, They started a family and had children in the first half of the 20th century. In a turbulent time in which questions were not allowed because the “natural” course of things had to be followed., without further explanation. The girls were scared when they got their period because they didn't know what it was., nothing was known about sex (of how, yes when and with whom), going backwards was the “contraceptive method”, abortions were hidden under a cloak of fear and shame, She gave birth at home and the women who had a lot of milk would breastfeed other children in the area who needed it.. This is how our grandmothers gave birth and raised and they tell us about it in first person. S.M.
