THE FILMTECA. Pl. town hall, 17
In Conversations with Billy Wilder, the extensive book-interview that he would compose with the journalist and director Cameron Crowe, the director of With skirts and crazy (Some Like It Hot, 1959) would put the ceiling of his artistic ambitions on raising even a little the average viewer's gaze on his relationship with art. Wilder did not aspire to transform the world, I just wanted to help raise the culture of ordinary mortals one step higher.. What a great and modest purpose at the same time! In collaboration with the Basque Film Archive, The Filmoteca de València offers us this complete cycle of the career of one of the most versatile directors in the history of cinema. As Luis Alegre comments, author of the book Billy Wilder. Anatomy of a genius that accompanies the cycle, Wilder's talent crossed all genres, of comedy, to black, going through the war, the drama, the romantic, that of trials, that of journalists or “those kinds of films that lack genre because they are like life”. The cycle begins with twilight of the gods [17-18/1], and then go back to his first works as a screenwriter in Germany in the 1930s.: sunday people [24-25/1] y Emil and the detectives [31/1 y 1/2].
