Veggie Back 2024

The day 1 In November, World Vegan Day was celebrated., a life option that gains career followers in Spain. Yes in 2017 he 7,8 % of the population declared veggie, in 2021 he already was 13 %, and currently the statistic continues to rise. To celebrate and promote it, The third edition of the Veggie Vuelta is organized, a vegan tapas route coordinated at the state level by the Spanish Vegetarian Union (BE) in more than 30 cities throughout Spain. The event, organized in Valencia by the VIRIDE association, It was decided to postpone two weeks due to the DANA tragedy in 29 of October that devastated our towns, hence will be celebrated between the days 21 y 24 of November.

Despite the postponement, Valencia leads this initiative, being the city with the most participating establishments in the entire country. It will have 25 places throughout the city with different tapas 100 % vegetables (without any ingredients of animal origin) in between 2 € y 3 €. Several of the participants have dedicated themselves to the towns most affected by DANA, like the Social Center-Bar Terra or La Mandràgora, who lowered their blinds to cook exclusively hot rations for people affected by the tragedy. Others, like Coronats or Vegreat, have been a collection and distribution point for food and materials for animal shelters affected by the floods of the 29 October, like The Rebrot of Life or DARNA Animal Rescue.

In the capital of Turia, The Veggie Vuelta is divided into 4 barrios: Russafa with 9 locales, Old Town with 7, Benimaclet with 5 and El Cabanyal with 4. Among them are already veteran restaurants, like the vegetarians Oslo and Copenhagen or the vegans Khambú and Mestiza, and new additions, como U Polish women, Traditional Polish food restaurant with vegan options, o Croquetea, place specializing in both vegan and non-vegan croquettes. What stands out most on this route is, definitely, the quality and variety of its tapas, that break the myth that eating vegan is boring. You will find everything from the zucchini and walnut pesto croquette with topping Crunchy black olives and lemon from Croquetea, passing through the crispy vegetable parmesan cheese roll, dried tomato and Marcona almond sobrasada with caramelized onion and Japanese Oslo sauce, to the tub of “faux grass” with red fruit sauce from Terra.

The options don't end there, and for fans of Asian food we will find a bao in a teriyaki or pulled option at Vegetas or the tofusatay with peanut sauce and brown basmati rice at Café Madrigal. Lovers of traditional food also have their place at the Veggie Vuelta: Khambú will offer sausages with cider, La Mandràgora will once again offer its successful “votifarra” and caramelized apple skewer, and Vegreat will have sobrasada toast, cured cheese and vegan cold cuts, among others. And for the sweetest, sweet tapas are not far behind. We can find a bignè with vegan ice cream to choose from several options, like hazelnut or plum, in ArteSana Gelat; the cream and chocolate micalet with hazelnuts from Vonuts or the coconut and peanut cake from El Carabasser. These are just some of the sweet treats you can't miss. A unique opportunity to get closer to food 100 % vegetable at popular prices and to help those places that, in the most difficult moments of our recent history, They decided to pitch in without thinking about the economic impact on their businesses..
